Federation Committees
Cumberland -Cumbria Federation have several Committees , below is an insight into each Committee.
You do not have to be a Trustee to sit on these Committees , anyone interested in joining any Committee or becoming a Trustee contact the Federation Office.
Education & Public Affairs
In addition to planning the CCFWI calendar and Women Walk the World Day, we try to focus on topics that particularly affect us in Cumbria, both now and into the future, while also delving in to life as it once was.
In 2023, we conducted a Beach Clean Up at Easter, a talk discovering what happens to the Collected Recycled Waste we are all encouraged to support in our County.
The future of stored nuclear waste and coking coal mining is currently receiving great media attantion. We hope to get a variety of speakers who can throw more light on the effects both these topics could have on us and our County while still supporting the ideals of the WI movement.
Home Crafts
Do you love to craft or have you always fancied a go but never had the opportunity to be shown how? Here at CCFWI Home Crafts we aim to meet all your crafting wishes.
Dabble days give you a chance to have a quick go at something new, or perhaps you would like to attend one of our dedicated craft days at the WI Office. We try to introduce new crafts like felting or new stitches in embroidery as well as the old favourites like beading, cooking and flower arranging. The Home Crafts Committee love to learn new things too, so are happy to organise events that members suggest.
Everyone had a go at making a Christmas wreath at our last dabble day (see photo).
Membership Support
A team of WI Advisers have responsibility to open new WIs and further the work of the WI in Cumbria. This is achieved by working with WIs, offering friendship, guidance and support as required. Training workshops are organised for WI Officers and Committee members from time to time. Encouraging women to become members and promoting the WI generally are important parts of their work.
Our remit is to introduce new members to our influential and wonderful organisation as well as inform and encourage existing members through workshops, visits and resolution meetings. We take up the challenge with enthusiasm.
If you are planning next year’s programme and would like a local speaker, your WI Advisor can come and entertain you with a short talk about the fun and friendship to be had as a member of the WI, ideas for your meetings, plus a question and answer session. There is no fee, just travel expenses to a max of £20. If you are interested then contact WI Office for further information.
Art & Leisure
Whether you wish to enjoy a show, learn to shoot or pit your wits with a quiz, life is never dull with this Committee, brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for anything from theatre trips, workshops and competitions to the organisation of the carol service. Sports events are held throughout the county, which enables members to participate in a wide range of activities, including target shooting, archery, darts competitions and rambles. The aim is to encourage active participation in activities, with something to suit most members during the year.
