Welcome to Cumbria-Cumberland Federation
The Cumbria-Cumberland Federation of WI's stretches from alston in the north ( the UK's highest market town ), along Hadrian's Wall , through the historic city of Carlisle, out to the ports of Maryport, Workington , Whitehaven and as far south as Bootle.
The Cumbria-Cumberland Federation offers friendship and the opportunity to learn together. There is a huge variety of subjects and activities on offer within your local WI or the Federation through the various committees, whether your interest is archery, photography, walking, cooking, creative writing, craft, art, darts or quiz nights. We also visit gardens and places of interest, and occasionally have trips further afield with overnight stays.
We campaign on national issues, and have been very active in our support for continuing the usage of cheques, saving the the honey bees, eradicating violence against women, increasing organ donation, reducing 'plastic soup', alleviating loneliness, and raising awareness of mental health matters.
You may have recently moved to the county, or have lived here all your life and are looking for new interests and friends. If you are, then please think of joining one of the 62 WIs with approx 1400 members we have in Cumbria-Cumberland, and be part of an organisation that can help you gain new skills and friendships.
Being a member of the WI can help you make a difference to yourself and also to the community where you live. If you decide to join one of our Institutes I look forward to meeting you.
